In almost twenty years, Fundação Biominas has created several innovative projects, programs and initiatives for the development of the sector and bioscience companies.

Business Incubation

Since 1997, BIOMINAS manages Habitat, a business incubator center dedicated to life science projects. Habitat is a 3,000 square meters facility with rooms specially designed to biotech companies.

Over 10 years, we have selected 35 companies from more than 200 projects received to install in our facility.

Seed investment

In 1999, Fundação Biominas established a seed capital investment program with the InterAmerican Development Bank with more than US$ 7 million of resources. In 6 years, we have invested and financed 12 start-up companies.

In 2008, Prodimol S.A, one of our invested companies, was sold to Orgenics Ltd., a subsidiary of Inverness Medical Innovations Inc.

BIOMINAS is still shareholder in four other companies.

Events and Courses

BIOMINAS is the main organizer of several events and training courses in Brazil, including Biolatina 2008 and the Biotechnology Entrepreneurship Boot Camp 2007 and 2008. Biolatina 2008 was the most important life science event ever held in Brazil with more than 870 participants from 25 different countries.

We have also been responsible for organizing the Brazil Pavilion at BIO International Convention since 2008.
